God hates death.
As much as human beings grieve death, ignore inevitable death, complain, weep, and curse death—none so detest death as the only One who defeated it, Jesus Christ.
Death is not only a consequence of rejecting The Word of God, death is also a living being. Scripture calls him: the prince of the air, Satan, the devil, deceiver, accuser, liar, beelzebub. Death can sound like a friend. He talks like he can be trusted cuz he appeals to our feelings—never to our realities. Truth is death’s worst enemy.
It’s often said, “I don’t know why God let my mother, or father, or brother die.” As if God doesn’t understand suffering. We can think God unresponsive to our pain. This suggestion to our subconscious is death in action.
The cross refutes every lie of the devil.
Today . . . when you’re tempted to think no one cares, no one understands—when Satan whispers, “You’re all alone.”—remember the cross. Remember how the Father sent His Son, the Son humble Himself all the way to crucifixion, the power of the Spirit of God humiliated death by punching the grave in the mouth, and offers grace—that His Presence in you might do the same.
“O death, where is thy sting, O death, where is thy victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55)
