The morning my bare boney feet stepped up on the scale, the load of life hit like a ton of bricks. You can have everything this world has to offer, and still feel like your starving to death. In my forties I fell for old lies. A time in your life when kids are grown, our responsibilities take a break, or maybe we’re just needing a change. A season some new thing was the answer to that deep ache inside.
We’ve all heard it. Things promising peace, one hour of contentment, a better tomorrow—are not ideas from nowhere. They’re in our DNA. Knit by our Creator who spoke us into existence is a craving for something we’ve carelessly named a pretty face, success, physical passions, one more follower, one more dollar, one more meal at the table of unfulfillment. We can’t even buy toilet paper without the promise of a better life. But all our toiling has left us hungrier than ever.
Advice is handy—how to live good, godly lives—but there is only One whose Words are Life. In a world of experts, keeping us more depressed and anxious than ever, is it possible we could turn, and go straight to the source of our soul cry? Cuz, God Speaks for Himself. We don’t need more information. We need God, who made everything.
We’re in this together, this world of questions and half-hearted answers. And God’s divine power, through faith in His Firstborn from the dead, “has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (2 Peter 1:3-5) How’s that for an answer? Can God not cut right through the mess in our head we call logic? Is there a better bill written, a more effective law to bring peace and order? A surer insurance policy? No, not one. And we’ve not sought God, not with our whole fickle heart. And I’m right there with you sisters and brothers.
Sitting down a year ago after publishing, Divine Surprise, I started writing a second book that could help me learn to pray, and God started teaching me how to listen. How to sit with His wisdom, open, speaking right into my flailing existence. God Speaks for Himself, was birthed out of that time with Him.
I pray it speaks to you.
God Speaks for Himself, is coming in June.
